Synopsis

This Fellowship explores international best practices to address Victoria's critical shortage of skilled
tradespeople necessary for essential housing and economic projects. Low apprenticeship completion rates are necessitating reform in the vocational education and training sector. The study investigates innovative approaches from the UK, USA and Germany, to improve apprenticeship outcomes. Key findings include the benefits of a dual education model, progressive supports for complex apprentice needs, and successful mentorship programs. The author proposes eight bold considerations to enhance retention and completion rates, aiming to meet Victoria's current and future economic workforce demands through improved apprenticeship systems and vocational career pathways.
